If you’ve made it to June then you’re halfway through the year! The summer weather should be lovely this time of year, and just in time to celebrate Pride Month. If you work all day to bring home the bacon like most of us, office culture calls for some good ol’ participation.

Pride Month is all about inclusion, equality, and being who you are. Everyone celebrates Pride no matter their sexual orientation and gender.

So how can you celebrate this Pride Month from inside your office other than through public displays of gayness? The answer is with virtual activities to educate, entertain your team, and show support for the LGBTQ+ community.

This article will clearly state how to celebrate Pride Month at work virtually. All the activities and ideas in this list are especially beneficial for remote teams. 13 Virtual Activities for Celebrating Pride Month at Work

    Who Celebrates Pride

If you’ve never been to The Gay Pride Parade and you’re wondering if it’s for you, rest assured that it is. Lots of people, even cisgender straight people are invited and encouraged to celebrate Pride Month.

The LGBTQ+ community has been fighting and making strides towards the goal of equality for a long time. We’re still far from it, but you have to appreciate the changes we’ve made from the 1960s to now.

By showing support to the cause, no matter where you come from or who you love, you are creating a better, more accepting world for us to live in.

Where did Pride even come from?

The very first Pride Parade was in 1970. After the horrible riots that took place the summer before in New York City, the gay community marched from central park to the Stonewall Inn (the site of the Stonewall Riots from the year before) in protest.

Chanting their chants and marching through the city, the people of New York were fighting for the right to be who they are and to end the police brutality.

Since then, citizens of cities all over the world gather with gay rights activists and the LGBTQ+ community to march, party, and celebrate this glorious occasion.

To honor the occasion, we spend the entire month of June doing Pride-related activities. Even if you can’t get into the streets for Pride Parade this month, there are still plenty of fabulous ways you can contribute this June from your workplace.

    Let’s get started!

List of Virtual Pride Month Ideas

    1. Virtual bingo

Bingo! This fun and suspenseful game is a classic favorite. Teams from all over the world can turn this pride month into a friendly competition.

From the comfort of your own home, each participant will log into the zoom call and compete for first place. Every round an answer will be called out and if your bingo card has it, you get to fill out the corresponding box. Try to fill out your bingo card first by getting a full row to win and be crowned the gay bingo queen.

    2. Virtual trivia

Virtual trivia is a fun game that will get your team involved in Pride and educated on the matter. With a series of Pride and LGBTQ+ related trivia questions, you’ll find out who is the gay trivia master from your office.

Gay trivia and other online virtual activities are available at Amphy. You can book a fun trivia night for your team whenever fits your schedule. It will be challenging but fun and hopefully you’ll have a few laughs along the way.

    3. Virtual cocktail making (gay drinks)

Did happy hour come early? This Pride Month, why not treat your team to a virtual cocktail-making workshop? You can learn how to make cocktails commonly associated with the LGBTQ+ bar-going community.

When people in the team don’t see each other in person, virtual pride month activities are the perfect solution to making people feel connected and involved.

Bond with your team over some colorful and tasty drinks. You can use the exciting recipes to impress your friends at the next cocktail party. Learn virtually with your team how to make a sweet and spicey Negroni, or juicy Naked & Famous to relax and sip on. Cheers!

    4. Virtual karaoke

Mama mia! Here we go again with a hilarious virtual Pride activity for work. Get the team together in a virtual gay karaoke bar and sing your hearts out. Pride is meant to be fun, not somber so Pride, singing, and dancing goes hand in hand.

    5. Virtual education

Feel like you’re missing some information about Pride? This month is a perfect opportunity to get your team up to speed with everything they need to know. The LGBTQ+ rights movement is fairly new to the world and needs to become common knowledge.

You can book a virtual diversity and inclusion training workshop and get the whole team up to speed. Learn about every gender and sexual orientation and how they prefer to be referred to.

    6. Add pronouns to signature

Making everyone feel included is an important initiative in the workplace. One of the goals of Pride month is in fact to promote inclusion for all walks of life. That’s why using the right pronouns for how individuals in the office identify can make a big difference.

Try putting your pronouns in the signature of your emails. This way you’re promoting the use of correct pronouns and preventing any embarrassing mistakes.

    7. Pride zoom background

Here’s a useful tip that takes almost no effort at all. Replace your background on Zoom with a pride-themed zoom background. Every time you log into a meeting or call a colleague they’ll see your support for the movement as clear as day.

    8. LGBTQ+ themed gift cards

Gift cards are a great way to make someone feel special. Websites like Amphy offer personalizable gift cards for whoever you want to give a gift to. Sending the gift card with Pride colors and decorations on them will really set the festive mood.

    9. Pride Month book club

Getting your team to read and discuss a book written by a non-heterosexual author is a fun way to teach about Pride. You don’t need to be physically together to join a virtual conference call and talk about what you read.

Book clubs lead to conversations and questions about Pride and LGBTQ+. Your team will discover new things and gain an appreciation for the community and everything they’ve contributed to art and culture.

Here are a few book recommendations from talented authors:

    • The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr.

    • Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters

    • Broken Horses by Brandi Carlisle

    • Last Call by Elon Green

    • I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver:

    • The Art of Showing Up: How to Be there for Yourself and Your People by Rachel Miller

    10. Pride movie night

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so a motion picture must be worth a few million, right? Sit down with your team for a virtual gay movie night for a fun, festive activity. So many great films have come out that shine a positive light on the LGBTQ+ movement.

Here are some fabulous LGBTQ+ movies you can choose from:

    • Priscilla Queen of the Desert

    • Moonlight

    • Milk

    • Paris is Burning

    • My Beautiful Laundrette

    • Love, Simon

    • The Birdcage

    • Pose

    • Queer Eye

    11. Virtual Pride Parade

Can’t make it to Pride Parade this year? No problem!

Have a virtual Pride Parade from anywhere in the world. Enjoy the floats, see incredible things, colorful people and outfits, and bask in the glory of the biggest Gay Pride event of the year.

    12. Virtual tour of Greenwich Village

If you’re not from New York and you’ve never seen the sight of the original Pride Parade, you are surely missing out. Luckily, in this day and age, you can go almost anywhere with an online virtual tour. Greenwich Village is the home of Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of the Pride Parade. It’s a gay bar from the mid-1900s that stands to this day.

Check out Amphy Places, the hub for virtual tours all over the world. You can book a tour with your team that they’re sure to enjoy.

    13. Virtual pride museum exhibit

For the ultimate fun, educational, and entertaining activity this Pride Month, try a virtual museum tour. Check out the best gay museum exhibits with your whole team without getting up from your chair. Here’s a short list to consider.

You can have employees and colleagues in Berlin, Toronto, or Argentina, it doesn’t matter where they are. Virtual museum tours bring you right to the exhibit. How fun is that?

Celebrating Pride is not only for the LGBTQ+ community. We all have the responsibility to find ways to get involved. In today’s remote working environment, finding activities that your team can do online is a great way to celebrate Gay Pride.

What will you do for your company or team to help make a change for the better?

It would be great if you leave a comment saying any Pride Month activities that you’ve tried. How did it go? What did you learn?

The more we take a stand and publicly display the important issues for the LGBTQ+ community the closer we get to an equal, inclusive, and accepting world. Every workspace can join the fun and show their pride! Happy Pride month everyone!
