Why Are My Microsoft Ads Not Showing? A Troubleshooting Checklist

    Ad PlatformsMicrosoft Ads

    Quick answer

Microsoft Ads usually stop showing because of a billing or payment issue, ads still in editorial review or disapproved, a verification request, a limited or exhausted budget, bids too low for the auction, or narrow targeting. Check the account and campaign status columns first, then use the Ad preview and diagnostics tool instead of searching for your own ad.

Start at the top: account-level blockers

Account-level problems stop every campaign at once, so rule them out first. Look for banners at the top of the account and check the account status in the accounts list. The most common blockers are:

    • Billing: a declined card, an expired payment method, an unpaid balance on a postpay account, or a prepay account that has run out of funds.
    • Verification: an advertiser identity verification request that hasn’t been completed.
    • Policy: a suspension or account-level policy hold.
    • New account setup: billing details or the first payment not yet processed.

If any of these show, fix them before touching campaigns. No campaign setting will make ads serve while the account is blocked.

Recommended solution: get help from a Microsoft Ads Elite partner

The fastest, most reliable way to resolve this is to reach out to a Microsoft Advertising Elite partner like Adcore. Elite is the highest of Microsoft’s three partner tiers (Partner, Select and Elite), and Elite partners can escalate cases directly through Microsoft’s partner team.

The campaign checklist, from most to least common

    1. Ad status. Ads in editorial review or disapproved won’t serve. Open the Ads tab and check the delivery column. Hover the status for the exact reason.
    2. Campaign and ad group status. Confirm both are enabled, the start date has passed and the end date hasn’t.
    3. Budget. A campaign limited by budget may stop serving later in the day. Check the budget status column.
    4. Bids. Keywords below the first page bid show rarely or not at all. Compare your bids with the estimates in the keyword grid.
    5. Keyword status. Keywords marked low search volume won’t trigger ads until search volume rises. Add broader variants.
    6. Targeting. Tight locations, languages, devices or ad schedules shrink reach. Check the location setting covers where your customers are.
    7. Negative keywords. A broad negative at campaign level or in a shared list can block your own keywords.
    8. Quality. Low Quality Score raises the bid needed to show. Improve ad relevance and landing pages.

How to check if your ad is showing

Use the Ad preview and diagnostics tool in Microsoft Advertising. It shows whether an ad is eligible for a search, in a given location and device, and if not, why. Searching on Bing yourself again and again is unreliable: it adds impressions without clicks, which hurts click-through rate, and repeated searches without clicks can make your ad stop appearing to you. The tool avoids both problems.

    Imported campaigns: a special case

If you imported campaigns from Google Ads, check that they weren’t imported paused, that bids and budgets make sense for Microsoft, and that locations weren’t changed during import. A scheduled import can also overwrite changes you made in Microsoft.

    When it’s a platform-side problem

Sometimes everything looks right and ads still don’t serve. That can be a review stuck in a queue, a billing issue on Microsoft’s side, or a policy flag that isn’t shown clearly in the interface. These cases need someone at Microsoft to look at the account.

Why you can’t always get a quick answer

Microsoft Advertising handles all advertisers through one central support desk, and most small and mid-sized accounts don’t get a dedicated rep. Chat agents can check what you can already see, but platform-side issues often need escalation. Microsoft’s model is to support SMBs through Partner Program channel partners, who troubleshoot the account directly and escalate platform-side issues through Microsoft’s partner team.

    FAQ

How long does Microsoft Ads editorial review take?

Most ads are reviewed quickly, but some need manual review. If an ad stays in review for a long time, contact support.

Do I need a minimum budget for ads to show?

There’s no universal minimum for serving, but a budget too small for your bids limits how often ads show.

Why do my ads show on Bing but not Yahoo or DuckDuckGo?

Check your ad distribution settings and bids. Delivery across the network varies by auction.

Why did my ads stop overnight?

Check billing first. A failed payment is the most common cause of a sudden stop.
